Sources and a Note About Effectiveness Rates
In order to provide the most accurate information, the effectiveness rates for all methods EXCEPT condom, internal condom, and dental dam were found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration websites. These rates are based on user error. When contraceptives options are used perfectly, their error rates improve.
- Birth Control Chart (FDA)
- Contraception (CDC)
- Effectiveness of Family Planning Methods (CDC)
The effectiveness numbers for condom and internal condom were found on the Planned Parenthood website.
As of June 2020, we could not find an effectiveness number for the dental dam. This is why we have not listed an effectiveness rate on the card.
